In a major boost for government's stated desire to create more high value, high tech jobs, IBM announced today that it will set up its first Smarter Cities Technology Centre in Dublin.
It is anticipated that the Smarter Cities Centre will create up to 200 jobs over the next three years in what is an IDA-supported investment of up to €66 million.
The goal is to generate ideas and technology that will help cities around the world to better manager core services, such as transport, communication, water and energy. A team of experts will work with city authorities, universities, small and large businesses as well as experts from IBM Research and the Ireland-based IBM Software Development Lab.
Dublin City authorities have said they will collaborate with IBM in the new venture as a 'test bed', with the goal of positioning Dublin as a 'smarter' city, embracing new technology.
